Other Responsibilities

  • File documents submitted electronically
  • Collect real estate transfer tax on conveyances of property, a portion of which is retained in the country’s general fund
  • Collect & report Auditor’s fee on transfer of property
  • Certify all Recorder’s records
  • Make records available for genealogy research
  • File detailed reports monthly and annually to the county and state agencies:
    • Iowa Department of Public Health
    • Iowa Department of Natural Resources
    • Iowa Department of Revenue & Finance
  • Accept passport applications.The Wapello County Recorder’s office now accepts passport applications on behalf of US Department of State Passport Services.  The official website for all passport information including downloadable application forms, current requirements and fees, travel warnings and consular information sheets (on every country in the world) is available at http://travel.state.gov.    Passport applications are accepted from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday.  We do ask that you call ahead to make sure that the acceptance agent is in the office since we only have one agent at this time.  Information may also be obtained from the Recorder’s office by calling 641-683-0047.
