Does Wapello County offer food assistance?
The Wapello County Supplemental Food Program is for Wapello County Seniors 60 years of age & older. This is twice a month program and is distributed by the Food Bank of Iowa, PO Box 517, Des Moines, IA 52305. The application may be mailed to you by calling 515-867-2881.
Fill out an application and mail back to the Food Bank of Iowa, PO Box 514, Des Moines, IA 52305 . Proof of age and income are to be mailed in with the application.
Does Wapello County pick up stray animals?
Wapello County does not pick up stray animals. The procedure for stray animals in the county is to contact the Board of Supervisors at (641) 683-4630 to get approval to take the animal you have to the Eastview Animal Hospital. We then advertise in the Ottumwa Courier and will be posting on our website the description and the area where the animal was found. The county will hold the animal for up to 5 days.
Can my property taxes be suspended?
Citizens meeting certain income guidelines can ask for a property tax suspension. Certain property owners may through the Department of Human Service qualify for tax suspension. Call the Wapello County Supervisors office for more information at (641) 683-4630.
