Wapello County had the second aerial flight in the Spring of 2015
Every 3 to 5 years the county contracts with a private company to take georeferenced pictures of Wapello County. These pictures are used by the GIS, Assessor, Auditor, Recorder, Supervisors, Sherriff and Emergency Management offices, as well as other government agencies, private companies and the public.
The last flights took place in 2012, but was cut short due to spring foliage and was finished in spring of 2013. When a flight takes place there has to be less than 30% leaf cover, no snow cover and clear skies for the best pictures. These pictures are taken at a 4” and 9” resolution. (Resolution is inches per pixel size). These pictures are taken at five (5) angles when flown. One (1) straight down and four (4) at angles to cover all sides of each parcel within the county.
Cost of this service is divided equally between Wapello County, City of Ottumwa and the County Assessor.
The flight for 2015 is complete. The company has verified the imagery and it is currently use online with our county map..
8 1/2″ x 11″ plat maps are available for $1.00 per copy in the GIS office.
“Hypothetical” parcel lines/divisions (locating where lines could be by acreage division or other scenario) will be considered as a project and a request will need to be submitted. The request will be subject to a fee.
